Post wedding shoot.

I really dislike the term Trash the Dress. Yet, I cannot come up with a new name for a post-wedding shoot. Any ideas? I have no interest in destroying someone’s wedding dress.  I am interested in doing a post wedding shoot that is relaxed and casual and has a little different element than the wedding day.   This is a shoot meant for my couples who want to have a little fun after the wedding, maybe had two styles in mind for their wedding day and want to have some fun with both. . . AND are interested in collaborating with me to make their wedding into a magazine spread. Kayla and Troy could not catch a break for weather. Their wedding day was freezing and their post-wedding shoot was just as cold…..but it gave me exactly what I wanted. VARIETY.  Two styles that compliment each other to merge together in a magazine. (I’ll have more information about the magazine coming out soon!)

Do you need to do this session in order to order a magazine of your wedding? No, but I do really like the look of it. If you think you might want to schedule a shoot: I would suggest doing it within two weeks after your wedding, before you send your dress off to the cleaners. It’s casual, just like an engagement session. No need for the rented tux, have your hubby wear something he owns.

Kayla + Troy

Here’s a peek at some of the images from Kayla & Troy’s wedding day slideshow.

Love.

My beautiful sister-in-laws.One bride, nine little girls, and seven bridesmaids in 12 degree weather. Not easy. I’m thankful we got anything of them all together!

I cannot take credit for this (below) image. I was with the bride and groom, Brent captured this one. Love my daughter who is oblivious as usual, looking at her ipad and my youngest who doesn’t normally suck her thumb, totally content in Grandma’s arms.  This photo will be hanging in our house, it’s such a great capture.

Stacie + Chris – Tagalong, Birchwood Wisconsin wedding photographer

My first wedding of 2012 was fantastic. Despite dealing with 14 degree temps, the entire wedding party was really cheerful. Tagalong was a perfect shelter for indoor photos, and Stacie & Chris created a stunning set for their ceremony.  We even had some time to play around with night shots, which seem to be growing in popularity. Stacie & Chris – you guys were so kind to us, we’re so happy we got to start the year off photographing your wedding day!

NYE Wedding – Life and Style Photography

I would spend every New Year’s from now until forever wanting to photograph a wedding. Here is a glimpse at my last wedding of 2011. Mallory and Justin- you guys did amazingly well in the cold and evening snow.  Mallory spent a little time on Pinterest finding some new ideas for photos. The two photos of them not seeing each other but holding hands before the ceremony was all her idea, as well as the sparklers.  It was fun trying something new! Thank you both so much! Congrats.

This may very well be in my top five favorite bouquets of the year. It’s so appropriate for winter and I loved the green grassy looking stuff.

Susan + Zach – Life and Style Photography

So…December really didn’t look much like December this year. I was a tad bit bummed about the lack of snow, but after this little cold spell of “real” winter weather, I’m very thankful for the mild temperature Susan and Zach got for their wedding day.  It was still cold (trust me) but bearable for a few minutes at a time.  Honestly, it could have been 50 below with 100 mile an hour winds and I don’t think it would have diminished a thing for this couple on their wedding day.  They are just insanely happy people and it kind of filters in this big bubble around them.  We all had an incredible time. Their first look was in my top five too.  Big thanks to JD at Midwest Entertainment for provided the beautiful ambiance you see in the photos of the Metropolis. I’m telling you…….lighting is EVERYTHING when it comes to photography. I loved the pink accents. Enjoy!

2011 Wedding Recap

Thank you clients, friends & family who I photographed in 2011. It was a very memorable year, in so many good ways.  I am incredibly lucky to have such a great support system.  You’ve all contributed to my evolution as an artist/photographer and couldn’t have created half of the images I did with out you working right along side me, standing in the freezing cold, rain, heat,  wind (it’s Wisconsin, right?!) listening to me talking a hundred miles an hour about what I want you to do for a photo. I hope you all felt it was worth it.  This has been my favorite year of photography to date and I’m really looking forward to learning some more at the Vegas convention with some new photography friends.  I have a hefty list of goals for 2012, most related to photography: creating a boutique studio, editing less, hiring HELP!,  and taking a honeymoon with my husband. It’s been five years, and we are soooo incredibly overdue for one.  Below is a little montage of 2011’s weddings. Click on the photo to view each blog post from their big day.  Happy New Year!

December Wedding – Life & Style Photography

Jennifer & Mitch were married the first weekend in December at The Florian Gardens. Jen & I both wished for a pretty snowfall for her wedding day, and we got it. It was a beautiful heavy snow, gorgeous, but not the easiest for photography. (Think standing in steady rain, that is kind of what it felt like.) We spent a lot of the day running outside for a couple minutes and then running back in for cover. It really set the mood for for their winter wedding, so it was all worth it. They chose some of my favorite vendors to work with too – JD  Midwest Entertainment did awesome. Jen and Mitch danced their first dance at the introduction before dinner. I LOVE when couples do this.  They had all their guests attention and it was a fun kick-start to the evening. We also got to work along side Rich (Moments Video) who’s always fun to work with.  The last photo in this series is one of my favorites of all time. Thanks Jennifer & Mitch for making my job easy and being game for doing the outside photos!

Amy + Matt – WA Frost, St Paul-MN Wedding Photographer

If I wasn’t eternally optimistic when it comes to wedding photography, I would have said the weather on Amy and Matt’s wedding day was down right dreary…windy, cold and light rain.  That did not deter us from using the beautiful surroundings at WA Frost in St. Paul, MN.  The back of the building offered some break from the wind so we stayed there for all the outdoor photos. This place is truly breathtaking and I’m very grateful I was given the opportunity to photograph there.  I was so excited to photograph a non-traditional wedding and Amy & Matt did not disappoint. Loved all their details including the short dress and bow tie. The last photo in this series was one of my favorites of the year.  Brent and I even got in a date-night and dined at WA Frost after the shoot. It was amazing! Congrats Amy & Matt!

Kayla + Mike – Life and Style Photography

Kayla & Mike’s wedding day was simply fun. We got to work with people that we’ve enjoyed working with in the past, and the day was beautiful.  Kayla looked soooo gorgeous. She had to deal with a great loss just a week before her wedding, so her details were extra meaningful.  Her friends and family teamed up to help decorate and make their wedding day run smoothly , and it was perfect. Congrats Kayla & Mike!
