December Wedding – Life & Style Photography

Jennifer & Mitch were married the first weekend in December at The Florian Gardens. Jen & I both wished for a pretty snowfall for her wedding day, and we got it. It was a beautiful heavy snow, gorgeous, but not the easiest for photography. (Think standing in steady rain, that is kind of what it felt like.) We spent a lot of the day running outside for a couple minutes and then running back in for cover. It really set the mood for for their winter wedding, so it was all worth it. They chose some of my favorite vendors to work with too – JD  Midwest Entertainment did awesome. Jen and Mitch danced their first dance at the introduction before dinner. I LOVE when couples do this.  They had all their guests attention and it was a fun kick-start to the evening. We also got to work along side Rich (Moments Video) who’s always fun to work with.  The last photo in this series is one of my favorites of all time. Thanks Jennifer & Mitch for making my job easy and being game for doing the outside photos!

Life & Style Kids – vintage shoot

I’ve been wanting to photograph Harper since the day I met her, she just has that perfect vintage baby look.  I mentioned the idea to her mom, Christa, and she ran with it. The swimsuit was made by her talented sister and she bought Tayte’s hat in the cities.  We went to the Chetek Beach near sunset and just had a blast letting the kids be kids.  I’m so grateful for Christa’s help this summer. She watched our girls on Saturday’s while we were gone photographing weddings. The girls had so much fun, and it was such a relief to be able to focus 100% of my attention on my clients and know my kids were in good hands.  Christa is also Taya’s teacher this year, so I’m sucking up to her by doing this post on the first day of school  🙂  WordPress is being funny today and won’t let me post more photos, so go to our facebook page to see more!!

Tayte looking so handsome!

I LOVE this photo (below)

Jenna + Lee – Rice Lake Wedding Photographer

Jenna & Lee are both very sweet and gracious people. I was very excited to photograph their wedding and document the magic of the day.  We began at Jenna’s parent’s home…

We worked in a pretty tight space right next to the patio door & the dining room table, but the natural light was so pretty I didn’t want to move.

Jenna & Lee also opted for a first look. They did not book an all day package, so they were very smart and utilizied every minute they had with me and did not waste precious time before the ceremony. We did the first look, some bridal party photos, and the family pictures ALL before the 3:00 ceremony.

I enjoy seeing a new idea, their centerpieces were just enchanting.

I know I’m stating the obvious, but Jenna – you are a knockout!

Questions about Copyright

I’ve thought about doing a post about this topic many times, because I think as a small business owner and a photographer, it’s my job to educate my clients on what is acceptable, ok, and legal to do with your photos.  Most of my clients purchase the copyrights to their photos. Along with the CD comes a release form. That release form states:

I (clients name) understand that these photographs will be used only for the personal enjoyment
of my clients and will not be used for other commercial purposes other than the
listed above without my personal consent.

These clients are free to print photos, books, calendars, burn an additional disc to give to a friend, basically anything under the sun–they can do. They already PAID for the release. The only thing I would like to be asked about, is if a photo I took is going to be used for a commercial purpose.

If a client of mine chooses not to purchase the copyrights to the photos, but rather purchases prints or does not place an order and then chooses to take a photo from my blog or facebook page and print it… Well that is against the law.  I know in a digital world, it may not seem like a big deal, but trust me,  to the person who it’s being stolen from – it is a big deal.

If you have printed a photo I took and have not paid for it, please throw it away and contact me about ordering it.

What you can do with your photos that are shared on facebook & the blog –

Share them on Facebook.  Make them your profile photo. Tag yourself. Email the link to your friends. As long as they stay in the digital world and are not made into hard copy, I’m pretty much ok with anything!

My clients are all wonderful people. If they have printed a photo illegally, I am willing to bet, it’s just because they did not know it wasn’t OK.  This post is not meant to worry or offend anyone. It’s simply meant to educate the do’s and don’ts of professional photography in the digital world.

Because no post is complete without a photo – my girls enjoying the fruit of our apple tree : )

JJ Photography Workshop

Last chance to register for our Photography Workshop! Jared and I have spent a lot of time going over the content, learning from each other (yes I learned something new!)  to present it in a way that is UNDERSTANDABLE, so you can walk away feeling like YOU UNDERSTAND YOUR CAMERA and how to make it work for you and your style of shooting.  Even if  you’ve owned your camera and feel like you know what you are doing, you will learn something new. I attended WPPI in Las Vegas and attended dozens of presentations and walked away learning something from  each photographer that I could implement in my shooting style or business. I don’t ever feel like I’m above learning something new.  Photography is always evolving and changing so why stop learning now?!  This is a hands on workshop, so you will not sit in a corner and feel overwhelmed afraid to ask questions. We will sit with each one of you and talk about your equipment and what you want to photograph and how to make your snapshots become photographs you  want  to hang on your walls.   Don’t wait another year to take this class.

Amanda + Isaac [mexico sunrise]

So began my last morning in Mexico with the newlyweds.  I’m a little sad this is my last blog post of their wedding weekend. We decided to meet up in the morning before I left to do a little shoot on the beach. The sun decided to break the clouds the minute they walked onto the beach at 6:30am, but this is the view I had while I sat on a chair and waited for them. Even with the direct light, they were stunning to photograph. Rather than fight the sun, I just went with it, and liked the result.

Don’t forget to vote on your favorite wedding image by leaving a comment/like on their album on our facebook page. The photo that receives the most will be made into a wall portrait for Amanda and Isaac!

Amanda did tell me they just rolled out of bed and walked down to the beach. For two people who were in bed sleeping just minutes before this shot, they look pretty darn hot! : )

Eau Claire Photography – childrens photographer

I first met this family a couple weeks ago, on a cloudy evening in the park for pictures. The kids were adorable (as you can see!). The little boys are twins and don’t exactly sit still for long, but we had so much fun and maybe broke a sweat trying to get them to for a few photos..

love love love her hat..

Definitely one of my favorites..brother, sister love 🙂

family photos are never easy with little kids, but they are always true to life-not perfect and beautiful for that very reason. I love the little boy’s hug to his brother in this one.

This shot below would probably be a more accurate portrayal of a mom and dad and their 4 little kids.

My husband and I got to share a table at a wedding reception with them this past weekend, thanks for the company! We had a great time.
